The German Shepherd – loyal, protective and brave
There is no other dog that inspires the confidence than the german shepherd.
This is considered the most intelligent, the most intuitive of dogs. Brave,
protective and loyal, there is no companion more suited to giving everything
to his family. The german shepherd was bred from a mixture of other
shepherds in Bavaria with the intention of creating the perfect dog--and
that thought was perhaps achieved.
The german shepherd is a marvel of power and intelligence, the sort of
combination you wouldn't think possible. Yet, it is, and this dog is used
all over the world for every task from police work to rescue missions. It
understands how to respond to its trainers and its protective instincts make
it ideal for families. Truly, there are only two problems that can arise
with owning a german shepherd (we should focus on them because, otherwise,
the rest of the article would be nothing but praise).
The first is the need for training. While every breed needs to know the
basic commands, the german shepherd needs much more than that. This is not a
dog that is meant to lounge around the house and do nothing. He needs mental
stimulation of the highest quality. Otherwise, his natural instincts to act
may come out in ways you don't want (being too protective against strangers,
etc.). Your german shepherd must be trained and challenged every day. If you
do not have the ability to do that, this is not the breed for you, all those
fantastic qualities aside.
The second problem of the german shepherd comes in the form of a health
issue. This breed tends to have hip problems. This is due to breeders
refusing to screen and just trying to get as many puppies as they can. To
avoid this, you must find a reputable german shepherd breeder and never buy
from pet stores or neighbors. Only go to those known for quality pups. When
you do that, your dog should last around thirteen years and will be a
perfect companion.
There is no dog more intelligent or good natured than the german shepherd.
For families, he will be a protector and a wonderful companion. For single
households, the same. He is a service dog.
This takes does mean, however, that you have to give him services to
perform. Otherwise, he will not excel. Considered the perfect dog (or, at
least, as close as you can come to it), the german shepherd will do
everything he can for you. You just have to offer the same devotion to him.
