Boston Terrier – Teensy Tough Guy
While it may be difficult for some to imagine that the little boston terrier
was bred to fight, those who own the dog can quickly see the tendencies.
This is an energetic dog with a mischievous quality; he is unafraid and more
than a little willing to play rough. Though not aggressive (as the origins
would suggest), the boston terrier is instead very playful and just slightly
dominating.
As stated before, the boston terrier was bred to fight. The mixture of
various bull dogs and other terriers created its small frame and fierce
nature. Of course, over time, that nature has mellowed dramatically. Now,
this is a dog with enthusiastic tendencies, rather than fighting ones.
And that makes it an always interesting companion. The boston terrier's
compact body just screams "lap dog" but it may not be as willing to just lay
down beside you. This breed has energy and curiosity to spare. You will
always find him on the move (and trying to take you with him as the boston
terrier is quite affectionate). Since he is such a small breed, you can take
him anywhere. Exercise is necessary, of course, but not in extremes.
Families will love this dog as he is usually very good with children and
other pets. Apartment living suits him just fine, as long as you are with
him. And even the grooming is a simple matter. With its short fur, the
boston terrier rarely needs to be bathed or clipped. This makes it a perfect
breed for those who don't want to spend their time grooming excessively.
Training the boston terrier is usually an easy matter. Though this breed is
rambunctious, they are still loyal to their masters and will try to please
them. They do have a mind of their own, though, and you need to pick up ways
to keep them from acting act. Use favorite toys or activities, not food as
this breed can grow fat, as rewards. This will help keep your boston terrier
from acting out.
There are a few things to note with the boston terrier that might make you
pause. Its short face can sometimes make breathing difficult and it does not
do well in extreme heat or cold. Chills or sunburn can easily occur. In more
dramatic problems, tumors can occur. This is a breed you should have checked
regularly by the vet to avoid problems before they begin. Even if the
average boston terrier lives fifteen years, these complications can easily
cut a life short in not detected.
